Story of self!

TERRELL DONNELL SLEDGE  is a native San Diegan who embodies a strong personal commitment to arts and culture. He is a professional actor, writer, educator and community advocate dedicated to socially conscious and meaningful artistry.

Terrell’s artistic journey began 25 years ago with an unforgettable encounter with the arts in the form of his first professional theatre production of Lorraine Hansberry’s, A Raisin in the Sun.  That experience sparked a passion for storytelling and opened his eyes to the infinite possibilities that stories offer to any keen listener.  Little did he know the pursuit of his newfound passion would serve as the first step along the path towards academic excellence and successful artistic endeavors.

Terrell holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yale and Brown Universities, respectively.  He has performed at world renowned theatrical venues including the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville’s Humana Festival, the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Hartford Stage Company, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Repertory Theatre of St Louis, Naked Angels, Pioneer Theatre Company, Cygnet Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre and many more.

Terrell’s experience on the stage encouraged him to embrace artistic visions and personal goals that defied the limits that demographics and socio-economic statistics suggested.  Through his artistry, he discovered his capacity to deliver engaging sensory experiences that touch hearts, stimulate thought and cultivate change in communities he serves.

Terrell shares the skills and experience he acquired as a professionally trained artist through his work in support of cultural arts engagement, education, entertainment, and empowerment.  Terrell has designed arts education programs and founded a creative arts driven organization, RE:ACT (Re-imagining and Elevating: Artistic Concepts and Talent), which incorporates creative expression and youth advocacy forums.

In addition to his current work with the San Diego based organization, RE:ACT , Terrell has also designed curriculum and programming for the Yale-Dixwell Community Learning Center, Annie E. Casey Foundation’s: Making Connections Providence Summer Program,  POWER's Community Ties Youth Leadership Program, Stonehill College's PCC Advanced Studies Program, Trinity Rep’s Young Artist’s Summer Institute, The American Place Theatre: Literature to Life Program, the Democracy Prep Charter School of Harlem, The Marymount School and University of California Santa Barbara.

At present, Terrell's creativity is focused on completing the first issue of his graphic novel and animated series, Soul as well as his one person play and performance of Pride: Mortal BEINGS pt 1.
